Been Gardenin'

If you are wondering what I have been up to lately, I have been in the the garden a fair bit. I have joined the Spring Garden Challenge on the Yates website. If you would like to see my progress, go here.

Well, I gotta go now. Electricians are here. Having a dishwasher put in, yay!

Why I don't post often...

The biggest reason I have not been posting is that I have not been on the computer much over the last few months, except when I am quickly checking emails etc, or I am doing my homework for the writing and editing course. I don't go on the computer as much as I use to because I now have plenty of other things I need/like to do instead. For example, crochet, gardening, baking, reading, cleaning, playing etc with son, painting (among other art/craft pursuits) and the previously mentioned homework.
I originally started this blog as a place to rant/vent and talk about random stuff in my life - and hopefully one day post some patterns that I have written.
Unfortunately, my pattern writing keeps on getting pushed further and further back by my ever growing list of things to make and do.
So to those who might actually bother to read my ramblings, I apologize for the lack of posts and the non-existence of patterns.

Now, I am going to go and crawl into bed - It's bloody midnight here - why am I still awake?

New Photo of Craft Cupboard

I need an updated picture for my craft cupboard online, so I can show one of my Ravelry groups the difference.

As you can see it is quite a bit larger than in March.

Tasked with Issues...

Ok, so I am on the second unit of the course I am doing and am up to the second assessment task. I have come across several questions that bear major issues for me.

For example: 'Think about a time when you were given a writing assignment or task that was not your own idea. Using the dot points below, describe your experience with this process.'
The problem here is that, since I finished school nine years ago, I have not had any assignments/tasks that were not my own idea. This one question is worth 20 points - out of a possible 55!

It gets worse with the next assessment task. 'Give an example of when you experienced a problem communicating an idea or concept...', 'Think about an experience where you received unforgettable negative feedback regarding an idea you have had...', 'Now try to think of a time when you received positive feedback for an idea...'.

I think I am screwed...

Sometimes I feel so retarded.

Love and Fiction

Falling in love with fictional characters - I hate it! And yet I also love it. Gah!

Gods give me strength!

The reason I love it though is that I often take what I like about them and start changing things. In time the feelings fade, a fictional character cannot love you back after all, and what I am left with is an interesting story which then undergoes a kind of percolation inside my mind - often I put it into a kind of mental 'filing cabinet' for latter retrieval - in the end I am left with many different stories which 1) no longer resemble the original, and 2) are able to be combined to make an even better story.
I am yet to write these stories in full. Some have been written down, others are still smouldering away inside my mind.

But, I regress, this is not the only way I come up with stories. I often just have a flash of inspiration come hurtling to the fore from my ever rotating and changing background thoughts. Others are originally inspired by dreams or even real-life events that could use a fantastical twist.

I really need to get my arse into gear and get writing...

On a related note, I have finished the first module of my writing and editing course and I am going in tomorrow to pay for and start the next module.

I am well aware that I have not blogged in quite some time now. I have been rather busy and I have been avoiding the internet because when I usually have time to myself the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer with an incredibly slow download rate - prepaid mobile internet during peak hour.

In the meantime, I have been crocheting in the evenings as usual, sorry no pics right now - I haven't taken any.

There is not much else to tell right now, I was going to have a rant about how crazy the English written language is, but that can wait for another time.

Where did May go?

I have had so much keeping me busy these past few weeks, so I have been procrastinating in regards to posting here. I have had plenty going on that I could make several posts, but because I continue to put it off in favor of other goings on I shall have to put it in one ...I shall try not to make it too long.

I will start with today.
Today I had a rather large and annoying mole on my back removed ...not the prettiest thing to start off my posting. I can tell you right now that it hurts quite a lot. I had an issue with the adrenaline they were injecting into my back (they had only put in half), I started twitching like crazy, I also didn't feel to good so the procedure was delayed. Once the twitching stopped I was fine.

Now on to less gross things.

Yesterday my son and I went on a picnic on the beach. we had lots of fun. It is the end of autumn, so it was too cold for a swim, but the sun was out and there was hardly a breeze. We poked around an old shipwreck and went scavenging - we came home with a bag full of interesting shells and other bits - the beach around here is excellent for scavenging.

And now for pictures, YAY!

Here is an update on my progress with the Dalek Inspired Fingerless Gloves -

The glove on the left is my first set of changes, the one on the right is my final changes to the pattern.

Here is a better picture of the final glove design.

And of course the detail close up!

I have had to put the gloves on hold for the past week because I have been busy crocheting a costume for my son to wear to Kindy this week - He has to dress up as his favorite book character and he is going as Sam-I-Am from Green Eggs and Ham! You want to see pictures right? Well, I have pictures of the Green Eggs and Ham but not the hat that I made for him, you'll have to wait - although it is far from perfect - it took me several goes and I still didn't get it right - but what I did make is perfectly acceptable.

Do you like green eggs and ham?

The pattern I used for the eggs was a charted Japanese pattern, found here.

I found a pattern for ham here, but I changed it.

Now that I have completed the eggs, ham and hat I am now completing my assessment task, I have one third to go. I put it off so that I could complete the Sam-I-Am outfit in time.

Anyway, although more stuff has happened since I last posted, I'm not feeling particularly well anymore, so I'll get going.

Till next time,

One Dalek Glove and Some Supplies

I am pleased to announce that this post will have pictures!

First off, let me just say I have found at least a little of my brain since my last post, I seem to be able to function a little better than before. Maybe now I'll be somewhat less dull ...but no guarantees.

All right, I have finished the first Dalek-Inspired Fingerless Glove and here is the sneak preview:

This glove is alright, but I haven't woven in the ends yet because I don't like the top half. I have plans for changing it to my liking, but before I go ahead and frog this one I am going to experiment on the second one.

Over the last few weeks I had been cheap craft shopping and this is most of what I bought:

I've been wanting clear baubles for a while now (try a couple of years) and I had never bought any because all the ones I saw were made of glass, I never noticed these ones before - plastic and they open up through the middle, much easier to put things into.
I needed some more large-ish safety eyes and I had been checking in the local Spotlight for brown ones for a while, I finally found some ...the only packet. The baby blues on the other hand are older and appear to have been hiding from sight for quite some time, there were no others like them and I couldn't resist their colour!

In the same transaction I purchased these, I had seen the Birds Nest on the clearance table for a while and couldn't decide if I wanted any. Obviously I finally made up my mind. I bought 5 balls in hopes of making something a bit larger than my usual fare. The other yarn is plain old Merino. At first I only saw one ball, it took me a good 15 minutes before I found the other two. Normally I steer clear of cream, but it was the right price ($2 a ball) and even if I don't use it to make something for myself I can always use it to make a gift for someone. :P

While I am pretty certain I have already posted about my purchase of the two balls of Thorobred in this picture, I couldn't resist getting them out for this pic. All my purple acrylic yarn! I know, acrylic isn't really all that exciting; cheap and cheerful. I gather single balls of acrylic yarn for my amigurumi makings. I did have plans for all this purple yarn, but it seems to have slipped my mind for now.

Well, I'll leave it there. I would like to have a rant about my last assessment task but this post would get too long, so maybe next time - but I'll probably forget.
